The
Tower Flat Clos du Peyronnet Menton
The Clos
du Peyronnet is one of the few remaining unspoilt belle époque
villas in Menton. Built in 1903, it has all the charm of Menton in its
heyday when the rich of the world sought it out for its wonderful climate.
(Unlike many other Riviera towns, Menton is protected from the mistral
by the Alpes Maritimes.) Not only is the villa preserved in all its glory,
but so is the 2 acre garden which surrounds it and gives it its atmosphere
of timeless tranquillity. Indeed the garden, which is featured in many
books, TV programmes and tours, is regarded as one of the finest on the
Mediterranean.
The Clos is situated in the sheltered bay of Garavan, one mile east of
the centre of Menton, facing south and overlooking the sea. The nearest
beach is three minutes walk from the villa and Italy is 200 meters away.
A row of shops meeting most needs is very near and a good supermarket
½ mile away. Buses to Menton, Monaco and Nice run frequently from
just below the villa whilst Garavan station, with regular stopping trains
into Italy or along the French coast, is ten minutes walk.
